What is sexual assault?        

  • It is any forced sexual activity that is against a person’s will.  The force may come in the form of actual physical force, or it may be mental and emotional pressures, coercion or manipulation.
  • In North Carolina, four forcible rapes occur a day, in the United States, every six minutes a forcible rape occurs.
  • One out of every four rapes involves more  than one assailant.
  • One out of every four female college students is a victim of sexual assault.
  • Only one in ten rapes will be reported to law enforcement.
  • Each year more than one million women seek medical assistance for injuries cause by battering.
